Heavy Steel Fabrication Brisbane
If you manage industrial equipment or facility infrastructure, Davis Welding and Fabrication provides specialist heavy steel fabrication in Brisbane.
Heavy Plate, Structural Steel, and Boilermaking Work
Heavy steel fabrication is the process of cutting, shaping, and welding thick steel into structures capable of carrying significant loads or performing reliably in demanding industrial environments: equipment supports, fabricated frames, and heavy assemblies built to specification. Davis brings extensive commercial and industrial fabrication experience to this work, with the expertise to advise on the right approach and deliver it to the highest standard.
Where It's Needed
The call for heavy fabrication comes from across the industrial spectrum:
- Mining and resources - equipment skids, machinery mounts, wear components
- Food and beverage processing - structural frames, equipment supports, lifting solutions
- Construction and civil - access platforms, structural steelwork, handrails
- Geotechnical and civil contracting - rig components, anchoring equipment, site infrastructure
What to Look for in a Specialist
Davis provides commercial boilermaker services across a range of industrial and commercial applications. Complex fabrication projects demand more than technical capability. The ability to work from or produce engineering drawings, apply 3D modelling, collaborate with client engineers and fitters, and arrange third-party certification or testing where required are all markers of a fabricator equipped to handle demanding work. Davis brings this full scope of capability to every project.
Examples from the Field
Davis has completed a range of heavy fabrication work for industrial and commercial clients across Brisbane and Southeast Queensland.
For a Brisbane-based mining equipment supplier, Davis manufactured a heavy plate gearbox skid. This consisted of a thick plate steel construction designed to house and support heavy industrial gearbox equipment.
Metal Rockfall Protection Drill Rig Repair
A geohazard mitigation company required urgent repair to a drill rig that had sustained severe damage during anchor installation. Components were reverse engineered and redesigned to a higher specification than the originals. Davis collaborated with the client’s engineers and fitter, used 3D modelling to design replacement parts, arranged laser cutting, and had all welds crack tested by a third party prior to sign-off. The rig was returned to service with improved structural integrity.
Galvanised Steel Structure Replacement
A Brisbane food processing plant required replacement of a heavily corroded galvanised steel structure supporting two large gear motors. With no crane or forklift access and a two-day weekend window, Davis fabricated the replacement in two bolted sections to manage weight and installation constraints. The structure was assembled and welded into position using an engine crane, jacks, and trolleys – completed ahead of schedule with all gearmotor mounting holes aligning correctly.
Conveyor Gearmotor Lifting Beam
A second food processing facility in Beenleigh required the removal and lowering of a 300kg gearmotor located six metres above floor level. Welding was not permitted within the environment. Davis produced a 3D model of the area, designed a galvanised monorail lifting beam to clamp to the existing structure without welding, installed it via scaffold, and had the assembly engineer-certified prior to use. The gearmotor was replaced safely and within the required timeframe.
When the Job Needs More Than Standard Fabrication
These projects reflect the kind of welding and fabrication work where the constraint is often as important as the construction. Operational environments rarely make things easy. Access is limited. Downtime windows are tight. Some environments prohibit welding. Equipment may be damaged beyond its original specification and needs to come back stronger. Heavy steel fabrication under these conditions requires planning, modelling, and a team that’s done it before.
