Applying a maintenance free, long lasting, welded non-slip floor studs as a more durable alternative to epoxy coatings.

What were the challenges?

Traditional epoxy non-slip flooring is used extensively throughout food processing facilities to provide a safe slip-resistant floor surface. While it adheres well to concrete it does not stick well to stainless steel platforms, walkways or stairs. When the epoxy peels away it exposes the smooth metal beneath creating an unsafe slip hazard for workers. It also has the potential to contaminate food products and become a health risk. Regular repairs to the epoxy coating is required leading to excessive costs in maintaining these coatings.

How did Davis Welding and Fabrication solve these challenges?   

Our solution involves the welding of small stainless steel studs in a grid pattern across the stainless surface. This creates an extremely durable non-slip surface that requires no maintenance. This system also removes the risk of epoxy finding its way into food products. The studs can be applied onto new surfaces or alternatively we can remove existing epoxy coatings and apply the stainless studs to the surface underneath.

Project result

Our clients are very happy with these studs as a non-slip alternative to epoxy on stainless steel platforms and stairs. We can even manufacture studded non slip stair coverings to attach to concrete stairs. We have installed thousands of these studs over many years. None are showing wear at this stage and they provide a long lasting solution to what used to be an ongoing costly maintenance issue.
