Food processing plant stainless steel boot wash platform.

What were the challenges?

• The existing platform was outdated, poorly designed and in a state of deterioration with trip hazards and poor ergonomics. The design had many uneven surfaces and the flooring lacked anti slip characteristics which led to safety concerns for the operators.
• Many laser-cut components needed to be folded in the press brake with high precision to ensure the project could be assembled correctly.
• A limited installation time of one weekend was allocated for the installation, including removal of old the old boot wash Platform.
• The sheer size of the platform meant presented challenges in the installation process.

How did Davis Welding and Fabrication solve these challenges?  

• Using CAD 3D modelling software, we proposed an updated design with operator safety and efficiency the primary focus.
• The new design consisted of a level floor throughout. Nonslip stainless-steel studs were installed to the floor in a grid pattern to provide a safe walking surface.
• From the CAD model each part was accurately laser cut. We then calibrated our press brake and checked each component as we folded to ensure tolerances were met.
• The entire boot wash platform was assembled to completion in our workshop at Bethania to ensure each part fitted correctly. The platform was then disassembled and flat-packed for transport.
• A plan was put together so our team could fluidly disassemble the old platform and efficiently install the new one in the allocated timeframe.
• The design of the boot wash platform intentionally had it assembled in three major components and dozens of sub-components so that it could be transported and installed without any major lifting equipment.

Project result

The food processing plant stainless steel boot wash platform was installed efficiently and is a major upgrade for the production line at the processing plant. Our client was very impressed with the quality of work, efficiency of the installation and mitigation of any loss to production.
