Replace large stainless steel conveyor drum assembly.

A major Brisbane-based food manufacturer required replacement of a large stainless steel conveyor drum assembly.  Our Brisbane metal fabrication services were commissioned to manage the entire project on a tight timeframe.

What were the challenges?

• The installation had to be completed over one weekend to ensure no loss of productivity.
• Careful measurements needed to be taken of the drum so all metal fabrication could be handled prior to installation at our Brisbane based workshop.
• Access to the drum was heavily restricted by other machinery.
• There was limited anchor points above to attach lifting equipment

How did Davis Welding and Fabrication solve these challenges?   

• Meticulous planning was essential to ensure the replacement drum was manufactured correctly
• Disassembly of the surrounding machinery was required to gain access to the drum
• Careful rigging from above allowed us to lift the old drum out and the new drum in.

Project result

• Our planning paid off as the drum was swapped and the conveyor reassembled in one day. This was a great result as it allowed us plenty of time to thoroughly test the conveyor before it was put back into service the following week.
• No loss of productivity was therefore experienced by our highly satisfied client.
